OSF HealthCare + FG

Driving Growth, Savings, and Reliability Through a Future-Ready Network

Founded over 150 years ago and headquartered in Peoria, Illinois, OSF HealthCare has grown into a leading healthcare system with 17 hospitals and 150 clinics across Illinois and Michigan. The organization extends its reach by supporting other hospitals with IT solutions, Epic implementations, and a robust technical infrastructure that now spans multiple states.

At the helm of IT is Dr. David Hall, CIO, an internal medicine and pediatric physician with nearly a decade of experience leading OSF’s technology strategy. With firsthand knowledge of both the clinical and IT worlds, Dr. Hall has championed the integration of robust, reliable, and forward-thinking systems to support patient care.

The Challenge

By the early 2010s, OSF faced mounting challenges:

  • Escalating telecom costs hidden within complex carrier contracts.
  • Carrier-controlled networks prone to outages that disrupted critical clinical operations.
  • Limited telecom expertise in-house to manage funding, contracts, and compliance.
  • Rising demand for bandwidth driven by hospital growth and new technologies.

Without a specialized partner, telecom remained a low-priority, high-cost area. Carriers dictated the network environment, outages forced clinicians back to paper, and opportunities for federal funding through the Healthcare Connect Fund (HCF) went largely untapped.

The Partnership with FG

OSF selected FG for one simple reason: trusted expertise.

FG brought:

  • Telecom and carrier management experience that OSF lacked in-house.
  • Long-standing executive credibility, with FG’s CEO already a trusted partner to OSF leadership.
  • Proprietary tools and processes—including FG’s Client Platform and inventory systems—that ensured transparency, audit readiness, and client control of the network.

From day one, FG embedded itself into OSF’s operations.

“I’ve never felt that FG is a different company. They are one of us. When we have problems, they lose sleep with us. Having a true partner as a vendor is rare.”
Dr. David Hall, CIO, OSF

The Impact

The results of OSF’s partnership with FG have been transformational:

  • $10M in carrier management reductions.
  • $9M in HCF credits captured.
  • 26% decrease in the telecom budget—even as the system expanded.

These savings have enabled OSF to reinvest in technology, infrastructure, and patient-focused initiatives—while keeping IT spend below national averages.

“One thing that continues to stand out is the decrease in telecom cost. All other costs are rising and this cost is continually decreasing.”
Dr. David Hall, CIO, OSF

Enabling Growth

Between 2014 and 2024, OSF’s net patient revenue grew from $1.8B to $4.2B. This growth was fueled by the addition of 10 new hospitals, expansion of telehealth and call center services, and new revenue-generating capabilities—all built on the future-ready network infrastructure FG helped design and manage.

“Without this network, services like telehealth don’t get provided reliably. FG has enabled us to stay five years ahead of the business.”
Dr. David Hall, CIO, OSF

Broader Benefits

FG’s value extends beyond dollars saved:

  • Audit readiness: zero findings on USAC audits.
  • Operational efficiency: major reduction in outages, smoother operations across all facilities.
  • Client service: exceptional responsiveness and integration with OSF’s own team.

“It really is always about the client. FG lives and breathes that. Their responsiveness is unmatched.”
Dr. David Hall, CIO, OSF

Looking Ahead

OSF views FG not as a vendor, but as a partner in mission.

“This service is needed by every healthcare system. FG provides world-class network services. Others can see the same cost reduction and operational value that we’ve seen.”
Dr. David Hall, CIO, OSF

With FG’s continued support, OSF is positioned to expand its footprint, innovate its IT systems, and reinvest in what matters most—delivering exceptional patient care.
